Iran’s biggest rainfall simulation laboratory was designed and constructed by TMU researchers

Due to the critical conditions of soil erosions in Iran and in an attempt to carry out relevant research projects to safeguard soils against erosion, a Ph. D. dissertation under the supervision of Dr. Seyed Hamid Reza Sadeghi for the rainfall and erosion laboratory was designed and constructed at the Natural Resources Faculty of TMU.

The most significant advantage of this rainfall simulator concernsits high efficiency, faster speed, controllability and flexibility in comparison with natural precipitations. The sum of all these advantages make the rainfall and erosion simulation laboratory of Natural Resources and Marine Sciences situated in the city of Noor one of the largest of its kind in the whole country.Making use of a pressurized system, this simulator can generate different rain intensities based for different climatic conditions of the country. It can generate intensities similar to natural rainfalls, the potential for simulation of kinetic energy. During the construction of this rainfall simulation laboratory, the intensity and uniformity of rainfall at various pressures was studied as well.It needs to be noted that erosion removes the most fertile part of the surface soil and adversely affects the production of agricultural products. Therefore, soil erosion studies can determine the effective factors in soil erosion and the relationship between these factors and climatic and natural conditions. Conducting tests is not an easy task, but this rainfall simulation laboratory can be a great step forward in performing such tests.
