The president of the Islamic World Science and Technology Citation and Monitoring Institute (ISC) announced the results of the ranking and evaluation of 115 public universities and 21 private universities in the country for the academic year 2023-2024. According to this report, Tarbiat Modares University holds the second rank among the comprehensive universities in the country.

Dr. Mohammad Mahdi Alaviyan Mehr, the president of the ISC, stated that the ranking and evaluation of 115 public universities and 21 private universities in the country were carried out by the ISC ranking group. The results of this evaluation were approved in the 980th meeting of the Higher Education Expansion Council of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology on Sunday, April 14, 2025.

Dr. Alaviyan Mehr mentioned that the new national ranking criteria (ISC) for universities include six domains: education (25%), research (20%), technology and innovation (15%), scientific and technological diplomacy and reference (15%), cultural-social and student activities (15%), and management and productivity (10%).

He explained that the information required for ranking universities and research institutions was collected through three methods:

1. Research data based on national and international databases, which is extracted and monitored by the ranking and citation analysis department of ISC.

2. Self-reporting by universities, which is obtained through the completion of an electronic ranking questionnaire by university representatives.

3. Additional information provided by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology or related organizations to the ranking group.

Dr. Alaviyan Mehr further added that in the 2023-2024 ranking, a total of 115 public universities and 21 private universities were evaluated, with each university classified and ranked based on its nature and characteristics.
